Antique Navajo Rugs
For Centuries, The Navajo People have made Blankets for personal use. With the coming of the railroad, travelers headed west began buying these Navajo blankets for display. Heavily influenced by Easterners and Traders, the weavers began incorporating more intricate designs with heavier materials to create these stunning rugs. Each of the Major trading posts developed its own design. To this day, the common rug designs are named after the trading post or region that originated the design.
Unlike weavers of other nations, Native Americans still use the more difficult vertical loom. The task of weaving a rug in this manner is very difficult and time consuming. The artist gives time and passion to create a one-of-a-kind piece of Art.
Our selection of Rugs represent many of the major styles. We are constantly acquiring rugs from collectors throughout the southwest. All of our Antique Rugs must meet our impeccable standards in order to be listed for sale. As with any antique, some minor flaws may exist. We do not clean any of the Rugs as many collectors prefer that their age is evident. As with all of our products, we offer a full refund if the rug is returned within 30 days of purchase. Please note however that we cannot accept a rug after it has been cleaned.

Native American Hand Woven Antique Navajo Rug
This is a Gorgeous rug in a classic Two Grey hills Pattern with a difficult tight weave. The artist incorporated a Spirit line into the Beautiful design. The Navajo believed that a persons spirit could become "trapped" in the intricate designs of a rug. Many weavers used the Spirit line (a white or light colored thread which extends through the dark colored border) to create an escape channel for the spirit.
