Royston Turquoise comes from the Royston mining district located near Tonopah, Nevada and has been mined since the early 1900s. "Royston Turquoise" originally consisted of four old Turquoise claims located within the Royston range: Bunker Hill, Easter Blue, Oscar Wehrend, and Royal Blue. The Royal Blue mine was responsible for the majority of the turquoise mined in the area and is often referred to as Royston Royal Blue.
The Royston mine produces some incredible turquoise ranging in color from a deep sky blue to dark greens. Often the colors run together in the same stone with the golden brown mottled or webbed matrix. The mine currently produces some very high grade material, but in limited quantities. Visitors to the mine can pay to dig through the large tailing piles to recover some nice mid-grade material while the owners chase the larger veins. The mines are primarily owned and operated by the Otteson family.
