Marie Sisneros Askan (1929–1983) was a renowned potter from Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, known for her black-on-black, redware, and blackware pottery. Active since 1955, she skillfully blended traditional Pueblo techniques with innovative designs. Her pieces, including jars, bowls, and figurines, reflect the cultural heritage of her people. Notably, her 1978 blackware vase is part of the National Museum of the American Indian’s collection. Marie’s work influenced many, and her daughter, Linda Askan, continued the family’s artistic legacy. Marie’s craftsmanship and dedication to preserving Pueblo pottery traditions remain a lasting contribution to Native American art.
